A Study on Anxiety, Personality, and Family support of Preoperstive Patients


Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the relationships of anxiety, personality and family support in preoperative patients.
This survey was done from May to July in 1986.
The data was collected from 121 preoperative hospitalized patients in two general hospitals in Taejeon, Chungnam province.
In this research, new anxiety scale was made of 120 nursing students¢¥ description and was validatea by Cronbach¢¥s alpha.
Personality was devided into two parts by Wallston¢¥s Health Locus of control; one is external locus of control and the other is internal locus of control.
Family support was measured by Family environment scale.
Results were tested by S.P.S.S., ANOVA, Pearson-Correlation.
1. Anxiety scale was devided into three parts; psychological, physical and sociological factors. Anxiety score was highest in psychological factors and then physical and sosiological factors respectively.
2. Factors such as sex, marital status, religion, occupation, income, medical insurance, experience of operation, department of surgery and anesthesia didn¢¥t effect on family support score. The family support score was high in 15-24age group and above 55age group. The family support score was lowest in above college group: as the educational background increased, the score was decreased significantly(p<0.05). Factors such as sex, religion, educational background, income, medical insurance, experience of operation, department of surgery and anesthesia didn¢¥t effect on anxiety score. The anxiety score of the single was low than that of the married very significantly(p<0.001). The anxiety score was effected very significantly by occupation.
3. The relationship between Anxiety and family support was negative(r=-.327, P=.729).
4. The group of high family support had low anxiety score(F=105.840, p<0.01).
5. The Anxiety score of external locus of control group was higher than that of internal locus of control (F=207.258, p<0.01).
